As on 31st March,2011 total 64.23 lakh mobile subscribers opted for service provider change under MNP as revealed by latest release from TRAI. In the month of March,2011 total of 25.9 lakh customers submitted requests with service providers for MNP taking the total number of request from 38.33 lakh in Feb,2011 to 64.23 lakh at the end of March,2011. MNP is the service which allows mobile users to change their service providers while retaining the number. The service was introduced in India on Jan,20, 2011 and before that in Haryana circle on 25th November,2010.
Out of all the circles Gujarat sees maximum number of MNP request with 6.17 lakh requests while Karnataka is on second number with 5.29 lakh requests. Jammu & Kashmir, North East and Assam are the circles where customers seem to be more satisfied with their current service providers if there is not any other factor in play.
TRAI release also reveals that the total telecom subscription in India has reached to 846.37 million which includes 811.59 million wireless and 34.73 million wireline subscribers.However the number of active (VLR) mobile users are 573.97 million as on 31st March,2011 ,which is 70 % of total wireless users.
